About Us
MAIN OBJECTIVE
The main objective behind the establishment of Bhojay Sarvodaya Trust was to provide as many health facilities as possible to 400 villages of West Kutch where facilities were completely lacking. The village was at the periphery of the activities of the Trust and at the center were the deprived communities of the rural society.
In December 1998 it started with the first small step. With Regular health activities through dispensary, x-ray, laboratory, vaccine center and visiting doctor weekly clinic to provide services of experts from different faculties. Dental Department, Ophthalmology Department, Gynecology Department, and General Surgery Department were started in Weekly Clinic. Operation theater and ward facilities were added so that specialist doctors could perform necessary operations
EARTHQUAKE
During January 2001 Kutchh Earthquake: to providemedical relief. Bhojay Hospital was converted to Orthopedic Hospital during two months. Approximately 1500 patients were treated and 250 major operations were performed.
Under the rehabilitation program of Bhojay Sarvodaya Trust, 3500 families were provided with necessary materials for construction of 1 room of 180 square feet. It was decided that the beneficiaries would build their own houses reusing salvage material , and with co – operative labour. Later on this principle was accepted by world community,which was known as Owner Driven Reconstruction (O.D.R.)
AFTER EARTHQUAKE
The focus was on regularizing the weekly activities and starting new activities and new initiatives, after taking a break from earthquake relief and rehabilitation activities. According to this, dental department was started in 2002 and eye department in 2003 on permanent basis. Till now more than 35000 operations have been done in eye department and 15000 patients have been treated in dental department.
